Our Story
Safari and Guide Services
Was established in 1984 by Peter and Salome Comley. They were initially based in Maun, which in those days was a true frontier town, 300 km from the nearest stretch of tar road and with only two telephone lines connecting the whole village to the outside world. There was no power supply for electric lights, appliances or gadgets. In 1990, with a tar road to Maun under construction and development and civilization steadily encroaching, they decided that it was time to move on and headed for the Chobe region, where they still live on a strikingly beautiful plot of land, which overlooks the Chobe-Zambezi confluence. In the tranquil and inspiring Chobe environment they have written books on the mammals of Botswana and Namibia, as well as a traveller’s guide to Botswana.
In 2009 Peter and Salome welcomed Clive Millar, Jennifer Millar and Phil Zappala who arrived to spearhead the expansion of the company and allow Peter and Salome to focus more on the guiding for which they are famous. Having worked in the safari world in Zimbabwe they also bring with them a wealth of experience in varied fields including the property, finance, medical, linguistic and community development sectors. They are now heading up the SGS operations, marketing and company management as well as taking on camp management, translator, guiding and hosting duties.
“The SGS group (Frank & Anton) were great. They were an excellent team, helpful, informative, assisting… we enjoyed our time with them. Please recommend them to others who would like to do a similar trip! We really enjoyed the trip. Thanks so much”
