Our Guides
Quite simply our guides are what distinguish us from the others. We are proud to boast some of Africa’s most experienced and leading guides. Our guides all have over fifteen years experience which is a comforting thought when you put yourself into the hands of someone else in a strange and challenging environment.
Frank Chikosi
Is a one of the rare versatile guides who is registered as a professional guide both in Botswana and Zimbabwe, but has also led safaris to Zambia and Namibia. He is a charismatic, gentle soul who leads many of our mobile safaris and has gained a reputation among people who have traveled with him as a caring, charming person, who always puts his family and guests first and as such gets many repeat clients. He has recently also turned his hand to writing articles for travel magazines.
Peter Comley
Is based in Botswana, but has guided professionally throughout Africa for the past 26 years and is recognized as one of Africa’s foremost guides. His interests are extremely varied and his knowledge on a broad range of diverse subjects is astounding. Peter has gained a reputation for exploring remote and previously “unopened areas”. Together with his wife, Salome, he has written three authoritative guidebooks on Botswana and Namibia. He is also a widely published author, photographer and poet. Peter brings to SGS Africa his impeccable guiding reputation and his poetic soul.
Steve Bolnick

He has trained aspiring guides across the sub-continent and along the way he has accumulated three university degrees relevant to his guiding profession. He is a licensed professional guide in Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe as well as being a certified specialist guide in Zimbabwe. He has led research safaris for the World Wildlife Foundation, The JLB Smith Institute and Washington University. Steve brings to SGS Africa his reputation as one of southern Africa’s top walking safari guides. Steve is based in Cape Town and specialises in mountain trails in the Cape Peninsular.
Al Mc Smith
Is one of Africa’s leading walking guides, Al has conducted many of our mokoro trips with enormous success. He is a deep thinker and philosopher about the positive effects of wilderness on the psyche and is currently working on a book about his Okavango experiences. He is based in Mpumalanga where he conducts walking trails when he is not out in his beloved delta.
“Frank is a fine person and guide. We appreciated not just his guiding services but also how he just opened our eyes to all aspects to the bush. It is not about just the big five but about birds, mammals, the people, the climates, the flora, trees, sunrises, sunsets, the camaraderie, and everything else.
It is this passion that has driven me to three trips so far to the African continent and will drive me to return to Botswana.”

Freelance Guides
For various reasons it is not always possible for safari companies to use their in-house guides for every safari. Because of our many years of first–hand experience in the industry, SGS Africa is able to draw upon a pool of the finest and most experienced associated professional guides in the region. Should you have any specific guide in mind please let us know and we will happily incorporate them into your itinerary.
