Our Story
Safari and Guide Services
Safari and Guide Services was founded in 1986 by Peter and Salome Comley and was originally based in Maun which was, in those days, still a true frontier town. In 1990 the Company was relocated to Kasane where it has developed into one of the leading mobile safari and travel service providers in Botswana. In 2009 Jen, Phil and Clive arrived to spearhead the expansion of the company. Having worked in the safari world in Zimbabwe they bring a wealth of experience in various fields including property, finance, linguistic, medical and community development sectors. They now head up SGS operations, sales and business management.
Jen, who originates from Scotland (now based full time in Kasane), is our Director of Sales and Reservations and is second to none is her dedication and enthusiasm for organising the perfect safari adventure. With a degree in International Development and time spent studying at the University in Ghana, as well as working in the safari world in Zimbabwe, she has the experience and imagination help create a safari itinerary to suit your specific interests and wishes.
Originally from Sydney Australia, and with a background in the medical sector, Phil decided to leave that all behind and persue his passion for the bush . He has been fortunate to have travelled extensively through Asia, Europe and Africa and has a passion for nature and wildlife as well as being an enthusiastic ornithologist and a keen photographer. Phil has proved invaluable in the Safari and Guide setup in a number of roles including operations, logistics and sourcing, camp hosting as well as taking part in the marketing of the company. He is also President of Birdlife Kasane; an important monitoring and conservation body.
Hailing from Scotland, Clive has a varied business background including property and finance (besides his experience in the safari world). Clive’s principal focuses for the Company are marketing and finance although he is also a fluent Spanish speaker and leads our Spanish speaking safaris. Clive is at home anywhere he is allowed to play his bagpipes and guitar.
Safari and Guide Services is also very proud of our involvement with the NGO Caracal and donated the cobra enclosure to the Kasane BioDiversity Centre in 2010. For more information on the great work being done by Caracal please click here.
“The SGS group (Frank & Anton) were great. They were an excellent team, helpful, informative, assisting… we enjoyed our time with them. Please recommend them to others who would like to do a similar trip! We really enjoyed the trip. Thanks so much”
